OVERVIEW
In 2019, Jess Burgess, Elena Mudd and I founded RUDE; an art collective with a mission to tell the stories of women and non-binary people through a collaborative art process. Rather than speak for them, we wanted to work with the participants from the beginning of the process to craft their narrative together, visualize their story, and bring it to life. Our objective was to create work that captured the authentic voice of the participants, rather than a static portrait series.
For this photo series we asked –
What, as a woman or non-binary person, are you afraid to show the world? Too often we feel that we have to show our best sides to the camera and the world, but what do you want to express that society might find unsettling, uncomfortable, unsexy? Who are you when you're not worried about placating those around you?
